Oxley Creek Common is a large natural wetland environment and an important area of open space within urban Brisbane.
We, as Friends of Oxley Creek Common, seek to protect it from unsustainable use and development, and investigate and develop potential uses that sustain its natural values.
In pursuit of this goal the objects of our association are:
1. To work co-operatively, and in partnership with our community, and with all levels of government, to provide opportunities for social connectedness within a social justice framework.
2. To understand the ecological and ecosystem processes operating in the Common through principles of investigation, preservation and conservation, with the object of sustaining and enhancing biodiversity.
3. To integrate sustainable land practices where appropriate to contribute to the well-being and social life of our urban community.
4. To complement existing community groups by creating a hub for community interaction and the exchange of ideas that promotes and facilitates innovation in business and local employment.
5. To use the Common as a resource to promote life-long learning experiences based on an appreciation of nature and as a place which supports and encourages artistic and spiritual expression.
6. To acknowledge our stewardship role and responsibilities to present and future generations with respect to the Common.
7. To establish a system of governance that:
a. fosters care and sustainability as opposed to short term profit,
b. develops the Common as a “heartland” for the community that is a symbol of a shared vision of an equitable and sustainable future, and
c. acknowledges and responds to changing social and cultural values.
